Cassie's Got a New Look

I gave into the new templates in blogger. I know I risk looking like every other food related blog, but I think it's nice! What do you think?

It was my birthday last week, and I was treated to some great food. I was amazed that I could be so well fed at The Keg all the while being vegetarian. I had their smoked mac and cheese (chipotle, baby) and super side of mushrooms, asparagus and sweet potato fries. I love that sweet potato is becoming a popular restaurant favorite!

My beau took me out to Chu Chai. I love their faux duck, and the fake shrimp was amazing. Although not inexpensive, a table d'hôte at $35 per person for two, and a decent wine selection, I loved it. Even the satay faux chicken was out of this world. The sticky rice pudding at the end, however, was nasty.

Tonight, we're going to Aux Vivres with my brother and his wife. They've never been. I'm totally excited that they'll get to try one of my favorite Montreal restaurants.

By the way, since I've been a bit lazy on the recipes, and been eating out far too much, here's a couple of links to some nice recipes I literally Stumbled Upon. Enjoy!

I'm surprised! I wouldn't think that "The keg" was vege friendly! Glad to read this!
Another restaurant where I can go with "omni" friends.

I really like the new template of your blog. I also changed mine when Blogger came up with that option. Did you use your own picture with the green onions or was it provided by Blogger?

Lucky you, going to both ChuChai and Aux Vivres... What did you end up getting there?

The dessert I love at ChuChai is the tapioca pudding with maple syrup and coco milk... But I guess it's not for everyone because of the texture. They sell that dessert at some stores too.

At Aux Vivre, I had the smoked Montreal. Really delicious. One of my favorites there.

At ChuChai, we did la table d'hote and shared the faux shrimp with basic, and the crispy duck in soy sauce.

I've had the Smoked Montreal once and really liked it. I was most impressed with the coleslaw though!

I'm so glad to hear that The Keg, of all places, has decent vegetarian options. I'd love to hear of others - very useful to know for groups of co-workers or odd-person-out vegetarians.

Why on earth doesn't Aux Vivres serve wine and beer? Are they afraid it will become a noisy fratboy pub? Doubt that very much.

Remember that Chuch next to Chuchai is a byow. Cassie, your ChuChai choices sound wonderful.

@Lagatta. I hear you on the lack of wine and beer at Aux Vivres. I'm assuming it's for the same reason they can't get their a/c to actually cool their kitchen. My birthday dinner was a sweltering experience to say the least. I am heading to ChuChai tonight, but know the Chuch is a byob is pretty appealing. :)
